Oleg Barskov
Oleg Barskov (30th of September 1935, Moscow Oblast, Russian SFSR – 14th of May 2002, Riga, Republic of Latvia) – a composer, a cello player, a teacher.
Oleg Barskov graduated from the cello and composition departments of Latvian State Conservatory. Laureate of the all Union Competition of musical performers (1957).
He had been working at the orchestra of the Latvian Theatre of Opera and Ballet (1953-1963, 1975-1998), since 1979 he had been a concertmaster. He had also been working at the Symphonic Orchestra of Latvian Radio and Television (1963-1975). Since 1979 he had been working at the Latvian State Conservatory as a teacher at the department of chamber ensemble.
Barskov was a composer, the author of ballets, choreographic miniatures, symphonic and chamber music.
He experienced the influence of neo-classicism (especially of Sergei Prokofiev), expressionism and neo-romantism.
