Jānis Ivanovs

Jānis Ivanovs (Ivan Ivanov; 1906, Daugavpils uyezd, Vitebsk Governorate, Russian Empire – 1983, Riga, Latvian SSR) – famous Latvian composer of Russian origin, author of symphonic works.

Born into a family of Old Believers. Graduated from the Latvian Conservatory in composition, fortepiano and conducting. Began teaching at the Conservatory in 1944. Considered to be one of the best composers of Latvia thanks to his symphonic works.
