Vladimir Volodin

Vladimir Volodin (1915, Chernigov, Russian Empire – 1959, Riga, Latvian SSR) – priest  of the Transfiguration of the Saviour  churches in Riga workers suburbs Sarkandaugava and Bolderaya.

From his childhood V. Volodin dreamed to be a priest but during the Soviet time it was difficult to get theological education. He studed in Vilniuus Clergy courses and then was inducted as deacon and priest.

On 10 August 1944 V.Volodin was apointed a priest of the Transfiguration of the Saviour  church in Bolderaya. From 1945 he served in two churches in Riga. Father Vladimir suffered from the prosecution of clergymen in the Soviet times. He was churged with counter-revolutionary activities and convicted for 10 years. He was released in 1956 but  was prohibited to live in Riga. As a result he had to serve in the countryside church.
