Konstantin Bogoyavlensky

Konstantin Bogoyavlensky (1899, Moscow, Russian Empire – 1967, Riga, Latvian SSR) – professor, Dr. sc. (biology), founder of Latvian school of cytology.

Konstantin Bogoyavlensky was born in Moscow. He graduated from the Department of the faculty of physics and maths of Moscow University in 1923. After graduation K. Bogoyavlensky taught biological sciences and was granted a candidate's degree on the basis of his research works. In 1940 he defended a doctor's thesis and then worked as director of Moscow Zootechnical Institute (1943-1947). From 1947 his life and activities were connected with Latvia K. Bogoyavlensky was invited to Riga Medical Institute to the position of the Head of the Chair of gystology. He made a great contribution to the development of cytology and hystology in Latvia, developed and promoted new scientists.
