Anatoly Blyuger

Anatoly Blyuger (1926, Ukrainian SSR – 2007, Riga, Republic of Latvia) – professor, famous doctor, scientis and teacher, academician of Latvian Academy of Sciences, over 30 years ws prorector of science at Riga Medical Institute (present - Riga Stradinya University).

A. Blyuger was born in Ukraine. After graduation from Moscow Medical Institute was transfered to Riga. He spent all his life in Riga making hic career from an ordinary doctor to outstanding scientist in the field of infectional and liver diseases. He worked in Riga Medical Institute for over 40 years ocupying high-rank positions. In 1965 A. Blyuger established the first in the USSR Latvian Hepatological Centre. He developed and introduced into practice  many advanced diagnostic methods for treating liver diseases. He became an academician of Latvian Academy of Sciences. A. Blyuger is the authir of over 1000 scientific articles and manuscripts. He continued his activities in the years of independent Latvia and was granted many awards of the Republic of Latvia.
