Dmitry Bokalov

Dmitry Bokalov (22nd of March 1922, Voronezh Governorate, Russian SFSR – 15th of March 1979, Riga, Latvian SSR) – an actor of Riga theatres: the Riga Theatre of Musical Comedy (1949-1958) and Riga Russian Drama Theatre (1958–1979).

Dmitry Bokalov was born on March 22, 1922, at the Latnaya station in the Voronezh Governorate (now region), into the family of a railway worker. He studied at the Voronezh Theatre School (1939–1941) and was a participant in the Second World War, serving as a squad leader in the 68th Separate Guards Reconnaissance Company of the 67th Guards Rifle Division. He was awarded the Order of Glory, 3rd class (1944).

He graduated from the Kyiv Institute of Theatre Arts in 1949.

He worked at the Riga Theatre of Musical Comedy (1949–1958), and from 1958 at the Riga Russian Drama Theatre. In 1964, he made his film debut in director A. Saltykov’s film The Chairman, where he played a minor role. This was followed by roles in the films The Army of the Wagtail is Back in Action (1967, Riga Film Studio), Captain Jack (Riga Film Studio, 1972), Comrade Brigade (1973), You Will Gain It in Battle (TV series, 1975), and A Jumble Flight (Dovzhenko Film Studio, 1977).

Dmitry Bokalov passed away on March 15, 1979, in Riga and was buried at the First Forest Cemetery.
