Nadezhda Bukovsky

Nadezhda Bukovsky (23rd of September 1908, Voronezh, Russian Empire – 26th of February 1995, Riga, Republic of Latvia) – a lawyer.

Nadezhda Istomina was born in Voronezh into a Russian-Latvian family. Her father worked as a warehouse manager, while her mother was a nurse. 

After graduating from Lyudmila Tailova’s Gymnasium in Riga in 1927, she began studying law at the University of Latvia. She received her degree in 1945, by which time the institution had been renamed the Latvian State University (LSU).

From 22 August 1945, she worked as a lawyer at the 1st Riga Legal Consultation Office (patron: I. Kusins), and from 11 June 1948 at the 3rd Riga Legal Consultation Office. On 23 June 1950, she was expelled from the bar. From 1951 to 1956, she had been working as a legal adviser at the Ministry of Social Welfare of the Latvian SSR.

On 19 April 1956, she was reinstated to the bar. She resumed work at the 1st Riga Legal Consultation Office, and from 13 December at the 8th Riga Legal Consultation Office.

On 17 June 1978, Nadezhda Bukovsky retired.

Nadezhda Bukovsky died in Riga on 26 February 1995. She was buried beside her husband at the 1st Forest Cemetery.

Family

In 1929, Nadezhda married lawyer Dmitry Bukovsky (1904–1990), the son of Professor Vladimir Bukovsky (1867–1937). They had eight children.

She was awarded the Medal of Motherhood, 2nd Class.
