Konstantin Bogoyavlensky

Konstantin Bogoyavlensky (15th of April 1899, Moscow, Russian Empire – 26th of May 1967, Riga, Latvian SSR) – a professor, Dr. sc. (biology), the founder of the Latvian school of cytology.

Konstantin Bogoyavlensky was born in Moscow. He graduated from the faculty of physics and mathematics of the Moscow State University in 1923. After graduation K. Bogoyavlensky taught biological sciences and was granted a candidate's degree on the basis of his research works. In 1940 he defended a doctor's thesis and then worked as the director of Moscow Zootechnical Institute (1943-1947). From 1947 his life and activities were connected with Latvia. K. Bogoyavlensky was invited to Riga Medical Institute to the position of the head of the department of histology. He made the great contribution to the development of cytology and histology in Latvia, educated and promoted new scientists.
