Joseph Batalin
Joseph Batalin (16th of November 1882, Kovno Governorate, Russian Empire – 25th of May 1954, Riga, Riga Seaside, Latvian SSR) – a teacher of physics, mathematics and astronomy.
Joseph Batalin was born in 1882 in Lithuania. He received pedagogical education and graduated from the faculty of physics and mathematics of the Imperial University of Saint-Petersburg. During the First World War he served in artillery. In 1919 Batalin began working as a teacher of physics, mathematics, astronomy and class mentor in Riga City Russian Gymnasium. He was a member of the Union of Teachers in Latvia and an honorary filister of student fraternity Fraternitas Arctica. He was singing in a church choir and was a member of the board of the singing society «Bayan».
