Pimen Sofronov

Pimen Sofronov (1898 – 1973) - the world known old belivier's icon-painter and restorator.

Pimen Sofronov  born in the territory of Estonia. Lived in Riga from the late 1920’s to the early 1930’s and was head of the icon-painting studio of the Group of Enthusiasts of Russian Antiquity. Famous artists such as Yuri Rykovsky and Yevgeny Klimov also studied the art of icon-painting at his studio. P.Sofronov moved to Paris in the early 1930’s, where he ran a school of ancient-Russian painting and icon-painting, affiliated to the Russian Students Christian movement.  Later worked at the Kondakov Russian Institute in Prague. Painted churches in Yugoslavia and in the Vatican. In 1947 moved to the USA.
