Kārlis Ulmanis (1877 – 1942)

Kārlis Ulmanis (1877 – 1942) – founder and leader of the Peasants Union party, several times became the head of the Latvian government. He concentrated political power in his own hands and organised the coup d’état. Mr. Ulmanis was the President of Latvia from 1936 to 1940. Subjected to oppression by the Soviet authorities in 1940 and died in exile.
