Garold Astakhov

Garold Astakhov (8th of November 1966, Jūrmala, LSSR– 19th of May 2009, Riga, the Republic of Latvia) – a Russian public leader of Latvia, the president of the Russian Community in Latvia in the second half of 1990s.

G. Astakhov was born on 8 November 1966 in Jūrmala, He has got two higher educations  – a civil engineer and a teacher. In independent Latvia he was involved in public activities, for several years he had ben occupying the position of deputy Chairperson of the Russian Community Council,  at the second half of 1990s he became the president of the Russian Community of Latvia. G. Astakhov protected the interests of the Russian population of Latvia in the field of language and culture, was organizing organized protests.

Alexander Gurin
