Maximilian Antimirov

Maximilian Antimirov (11th of December 1937, Grozny, Russian SFSR – 20th of March 2005, Riga, Republic of Latvia) – Habilitated Doctor of Mathematics, professor of Riga Technical University.

M. Antimirov was born into a family of employees. In 1945, the Antimirov family moved to the city of Frunze (now Bishkek). There, in 1955, Antimirov graduated from secondary school with a silver medal. That same year, he entered the Department of Physics at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of Kyrgyz University.

In 1959, upon graduating from the university, he was assigned to work in Grozny at the Department of Higher Mathematics of the Grozny Oil Institute, where he began his career as an assistant and was soon promoted to senior lecturer.

In January 1964, M. Antimirov entered the full-time postgraduate program at the Computing Center of the Latvian State University, specializing in Mathematical Physics. In November 1965, he completed his postgraduate studies ahead of schedule, having submitted his dissertation and six scientific papers. At the same time, Antimirov worked as a senior engineer at the university’s Computing Center.

In 1966, Antimirov successfully defended his dissertation and received the degree of Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. A year later, he was appointed Associate Professor at the Department of Special Courses in Higher Mathematics of the Riga Polytechnic Institute (RPI). From 1968 to 1992, M. Antimirov had been serving as Associate Professor at the Department of Engineering Mathematics, Faculty of Automation and Computer Technology.

He was repeatedly re-elected to this position. In 1986, he completed a three-month research internship at the Institute of Physics of the Latvian Academy of Sciences to prepare his doctoral dissertation.

In January 1992, Antimirov’s Candidate of Sciences degree was nostrified (formally recognized), and he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Mathematics. Later that same year, after defending a new dissertation, he received the academic degree of Habilitated Doctor of Mathematics (Dr. habil. math.).

From 1992 to 2005, Antimirov had been serving as Professor at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (formerly the Faculty of Automation and Computer Technology) of Riga Technical University (known as RPI until 1990).

He was the author of a significant number of scientific publications and educational-methodological works.

Professor M. Antimirov passed away on March 20, 2005.
