Yevgenia Altement
Yevgenia Altement (5th of October 1912, Vilnius, Russian Empire – 17th of October 1998, Riga, Republic of Latvia) – a specialist in classical philology.
Yevgenia Altement was born in Vilnius but her family moved to Latvia where she studied classical philology at the faculty of philology and philosophy of the University of Latvia. After coup-d-etat by K. Ulmanis she suspended her studies and started giving private classes and finally managed to receive higher education in the March 1941.
During the war Yevgenia Altement had been working as a teacher of Latin and Latvian at different Riga schools.
After the war she worked as a lecturer at the department of Classical Philology and History of the Latvian State University.
From 1951 to 1972 Yevgenia Altement had been working at Riga Medical Institute where she taught Latin.
She was knowledgeable in classical languages, a good lecturer and gained due respect among the students. After retirement she did not stop her activities in different fields and worked as an insurance agent, a junior scientific assistant and a senior engineer in various institutions.
