Matryona Vasyukova

Matryona Vasyukova (1880, Daugavpils, Vitebsk Governorate, Russian Empire – 1970, Daugavpils, Latvian SSR) – nurse of mercy and artist.

M. Vasyukova was born in Dinaburg (present Daugavpils) in the Old belivier's family. From her childhood she was interested in drawing, embroitdary. She finished nurse courses at the hospital and worked as nurse in Siberia. During the 1-st World War worked at the hospitals in Estonia and Latvia. From 1922 to 1938 served as nurse in Daugavpils, was a "Red Cross" member. At the same time  M. Vasyukova did not quit her hobby – artistic embroidery and embroidered icons with high professionalism. She died in Daugavpils in 1970.
