Anatoly Blyuger
Anatoly Blyuger (8th of July 1926, Ukrainian SSR – 21st of July 2007, Riga, Republic of Latvia) – a professor, a famous doctor, a scientist and a teacher, an academician of Latvian Academy of Sciences, for over 30 years had been the prorector of science at Riga Medical Institute (present - Riga Stradiņš University).
A. Blyuger was born in Ukraine. After graduation from Moscow Medical Institute he was transferred to Riga. He spent all his life in Riga making his career from an ordinary doctor to an outstanding scientist in the field of infectional and liver diseases. He had been working at Riga Medical Institute for over 40 years in different high-rank positions. In 1965 A. Blyuger established the first in the USSR Latvian Hepatological Centre. He developed and introduced many advanced diagnostic methods for treating liver diseases. He became an academician of Latvian Academy of Sciences. A. Blyuger is the author of over 1000 scientific articles and manuscripts. He continued his work in the independent Latvia and was granted many state awards.
