Viktor Ataush

Viktor Ataush (13th of May 1938, Luhansk Oblast, Ukrainian SSR – 4th of November 2003, Riga, Republic of Latvia) – Doctor of Engineering Sciences, associate professor of Riga Technical University.

Viktor Ataush was born in the village of Trokhizbenka in Luhansk Oblast. His father was a blacksmith, and his mother worked on a collective farm. In 1945, Ataush enrolled in a secondary school, which he graduated from in 1955. In the same year, he moved to Riga and entered the evening division of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Latvian State University (LSU). At the same time, Ataush worked as a controller at the VEF factory.

In 1958, following the restoration of the Riga Polytechnic Institute (RPI; since 1990 — Riga Technical University), the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering where Ataush studied was transferred to the re-established institution. In 1961, Viktor Ataush received a diploma in Equipment and Technology of Welding Production with the qualification of mechanical engineer. From 1961 to 1963, Ataush worked as a junior research associate at the Institute of Automation and Mechanics of the Academy of Sciences of the Latvian SSR, and in 1963 as a research trainee. In the same year, together with the staff of the laboratory Automation of Welding Operations and Theory of Automatic Machines of the Academy of Sciences of the Latvian SSR, he was transferred to RPI. From 1964 to 1971, Viktor Ataush worked as a senior engineer, and from 1971 to 1978 as head of a sector in the Problem Laboratory of Welding Automation.

From 1972 to 1976, Ataush had been pursuing postgraduate studies by correspondence at RPI, specializing in Technology and Machinery of Welding Production.

From 1978 to 1979, Viktor Ataush had been serving as head of a research group; from 1979 to 1986 as a senior research associate; from 1986 to 1988 as a leading research associate; and from 1988 to 2003 as head of a laboratory. From 1997 to 2003, he had been an associate professor at the Institute of Instrument Engineering and Industrial Automation of Riga Technical University.

In 1982, Viktor Ataush defended his Candidate of Sciences dissertation, and in June 1983 he received the diploma of Candidate of Technical Sciences. In 1992, his dissertation successfully underwent nostrification, and Viktor Ataush was awarded the academic degree of Doctor of Engineering Sciences (Dr. sc.ing.). In 1996, he was awarded the degree of Habilitated Doctor of Engineering Sciences (Dr. habil. sc.ing.), and later the academic title of Associate Professor.

Viktor Ataush was the author of a large number of scientific and methodological works.

Viktor Ataush died in Riga on 4 November 2003.
