Chapel on the grave of Archbishop John (Pommer; 1876-1934)) at the Intercession Cemetery in Riga was solemnly consecrated on October 11, 1936. Above the entrance to the chapel there is a mosaic “John the Baptist” by Eugene Klimov. In 2001, Archbishop John was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church. In 2003, the relics of the Hieromartyr John of Riga were transferred from the Intercession Cemetery to the Riga Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ. >>

Archbishop John Pommer amongst priests and parishioners. The girl on the far left is Lyudmila, daughter of Archpriest German Zhegalov. In 1952 she took monastic tonsure with the name Magdalene. In 1977 she was elevated to the rank of hegumene and took over the management of the Riga Holy Trinity-Sergius Monastery. Hegumene Magdalene served until her death on October 10, 1996. >>
